Literature Text

[The scene then changes to the exterior of an apartment room, with the number
7-G on it.]

Larry: (Narrating) It was another night in Apartment 7-G for Jimmy and Jerry
Gourd.

[We then cut to the inside of Apartment 7-G, where Jimmy and Jerry are both
laying on the sofa while watching a movie on TV.]

Larry: (Narrating) While they did live together by themselves, they lacked an
ounce of responsibility, so they were classified as slobs by many.

[Jimmy and Jerry are still laying on the sofa, when they hear the doorbell
ringing.]

Jimmy: Would you get that, Jerry?

Jerry: Not me, Jimmy. I got it last time.

[Jimmy can only shrug before getting up off the sofa, before he hops over to
the door. Jimmy then opens up the door to reveal a pizza delivery boy (played
by Scallion # 3) standing at the door while carrying four large pizza boxes
and a box full of breadsticks.]

Scallion # 3: I got an order for four extra-large pepperoni and cheese pizzas
with extra pepperoni and extra cheese, and an order of breadsticks.

Jimmy: *excited* Oh, that's ours!

Scallion # 3: That'll be six dollars and fifty cents.

Jimmy: Six dollars and fifty cents? *holds out a five-dollar bill and two one-
dollar bills* Here's seven dollars, but keep the change, okay?

Scallion # 3: Oh, sure! Remember, at Pizza Angel, we deliver for 30 minutes or
else it's free.

[After Jimmy takes the pizzas and the breadsticks from Scallion # 3 after giving
him the money, Scallion # 3 then hops off after that.]

Jimmy: Well, Jerry, here's our pizzas and breadsticks.

Jerry: Oh good, I'm starved. *smiles*

Jimmy: *smiling* Me too. Two for you and two for me.

[Without any time to waste, the two gourds then start to hungrily wolf down the
pizzas and the breadsticks. The screen then turns black with a white text that
reads "5 minutes later...". Afterwards, all four pizza boxes and the now-empty
breadstick box are now scattered all over the living room floor. Jimmy is
laying on the floor while Jerry is laying on the sofa, both looking rather
contented with their bellies full of pizza.]

Jimmy: Man, that was some pizza. I'm stuffed.

Jerry: Me too. *burps*

[Just as Jimmy and Jerry are about to get comfortable, the doorbell starts
ringing once again. Jimmy becomes rather irritated by this.]

Jimmy: *upset* Ugh, I paid that pizza guy the sufficient price for the pizzas. Did
he come back for a tip or something?

Jerry: I dunno, Jimmy. I'll check.

[Jerry gets up off the sofa before hopping over to the door. When Jerry opens the
door, he finds, not the pizza delivery boy, but rather, Laura Carrot standing at
the door while holding Baby Lou.]

Laura: Hi, guys!

Jimmy: *getting up* Laura? What are you doing here?

Laura: I was wondering if you guys could do me a favor?

Jerry: Sure, what is it?

Jimmy: But before you do, can we offer you something?

Laura: No thank you.

Jimmy: Really? What about a root beer?

Laura: No.

Jerry: *holds out a cream soda* Cream soda?

Laura: No, guys. I don't want anything. I've come to ask if you would like to look
after Baby Lou while I'm gone? We're going on vacation to Purslane National Forest
and we'll be gone for a week, but we can't bring Baby Lou with us, and we can't
find anyone else to care for him. Will you guys please take care of Baby Lou while
we're gone?

Jerry: *unsure* Uhhhhh....

Jimmy: *interrupts Jerry* Of course we will! We'll be glad to look after him until
you get back! After all, I imagine that he probably doesn't do much anyway.

Laura: Are you sure? Lou can get pretty antsy when you least expect it. *takes out
a folded piece of paper* Here are his care instructions, extra diapers, his baby
bottle, baby food, and his favorite toys.

[Before Jimmy and Jerry can react, they find themselves getting these items placed
in their non-existent arms, thanks to Laura. Jimmy is holding the care instructions
and the pack of diapers while Jerry is holding the baby bottle, baby food, and the
baby toys.]

Laura: Thanks for offering to take care of Lou, guys. I'll see you in a week!

[After that, Laura then hops off once again, leaving Jimmy and Jerry with Baby
Lou now in their care. Jerry then looks at Jimmy with a look of disbelief on his
face.]

Jerry: Jimmy, why did you do that? We don't anything about babies!

Jimmy: Well, uh, I had no idea it was going to involve all this stuff. Looks like
we're stuck with the little guy for a whole week.

[Baby Lou can only giggle at the two gourds before giving off a big smile.]
Here is the first part of the story "Two Gourds and a Baby".

Two Gourds and a Baby

A lesson in Responsibility

----Jimmy and Jerry Gourd live by themselves in Apartment 7-G without a care in the world. Of course, that all changes one day when Laura Carrot stops by and asks them to look after Baby Lou while she and her family are on vacation for a whole week. This puts a huge damper on Jimmy and Jerry's lifestyle because they are not responsible enough to actually have any experience in looking after babies. Can the two Gourd brothers learn to be responsible for Baby Lou? Find out in this humorous tale that teaches kids that Responsibility has its rewards.

Now it's time to point out the references that show up in this part of the story. The part with Jimmy telling the Pizza Delivery Boy (played by Scallion # 3) to keep the change, and the Pizza Boy responding with "Oh, sure", references a near-similar scene from the 1963 film "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World", where Melville Crump (played by Sid Caesar (RIP)) tells the taxi driver (played by Leo Gorcey) to keep the change. Since it's one of my favorite movies, I decided to add in that little reference in this part. Also, most of you may remember Baby Lou, Laura's baby brother, from 1996's "The Toy That Saved Christmas", as well as the fact that he starred as Baby Moses in "Babysitter In De-Nile" from 2005's "Duke And The Great Pie War", so I decided to have Baby Lou play a more prominent role in this story.
