Literature Text

[The scene opens on the Countertop, where Larry is shown to be playing with a yo-yo, but isn't so good at it.]

Larry: Come on, yo-yo. Don't fail on me now. I'll be sure to get it this time!

[Larry whips the yo-yo forward once again, but the yo-yo just keeps falling down in front of him, so Larry
starts swinging it around in front of him.]

Larry: Yee-ha! Ride 'em, cowboy! (laughing)

[Larry continues twirling the yo-yo around, just as Bob comes up to him on the Countertop.]

Bob: Larry, what are you doing?

Larry: Oh, hi, Bob! I'm playing with my brand new yo-yo! Isn't it the greatest?

Bob: But, the way you're handling it, isn't it a bit dangerous?

Larry: Oh, come on! What could be dangerous about playing with a yo-yo?

Bob: It can be if you're not using it right, Larry.

Larry: Oh, really?

[Larry continues twirling the yo-yo in front of him, when it suddenly flies out of his invisible grasp before a BONK is heard
off-screen after that.]

Archibald: (Off-screen) Hey!

Larry: Oops.

[Larry can only be embarrassed, while Bob stares angrily at Larry for what he did. Archibald comes up to Bob and Larry with
the yo-yo now tangled around his monocle.]

Archibald: I say, do be more careful how you handle this thing, Larry. It's liable to give someone a black eye or knock out
their teeth.

Larry: (remorseful) Sorry, Archie.

Bob: See, Larry? The problem is that you were being too reckless with your yo-yo.

Larry: What's reckless?

Archibald: Well, Larry. Reckless means to act without thinking or considering the consequences of our actions. In other
words, not being careful with our actions, or even the things that we say.

Bob: Exactly, Archibald. And speaking of which, that reminds me of an e-mail that we just got from Earl Tyler from Holt,
Missouri.

Larry: Wow, Missouri.

Bob: Earl writes...

[Qwerty brings up the e-mail on his screen. The e-mail reads...]

Bob: *reading* "Dear Bob and Larry, I am 9 years old. I love to play soccer, but sometimes I can't resist playing it in
the house. My mom doesn't like it when I do that, because she thinks that I might break something and that I'm being too
reckless. What's so bad about being reckless? Your friend, Earl."

Larry: Yeah, what's so bad about being reckless?

Archibald: Oh, you'd be surprised, Larry. Recklessness is not a good thing. When we are reckless, then it will only spell
trouble for those around us, and we'd end up losing trust in those close to us.

Bob: That's right. God doesn't want us to be reckless, he wants us to be careful and think clearly about our actions and
what our actions will do. In fact, Archibald and I have a story today that can help the two of you out.

Larry: Really, Bob?

Bob: Yep, it's about a toad who is obsessed with wanting to try out many things, but did not stop to think about how
reckless his actions were.

Larry: Wow, a toad?

Archibald: Indeed. It's actually a story written long ago by Kenneth Grahame. It's called "The Wind in the Willows".

Larry: But, wait a minute. How can a toad be reckless when doing something?

Archibald: You'll find out soon enough, Larry. All in good time.

Bob: Right, Archibald! Roll film!

[The screen goes dark, signifying that the story is about to start.]
Now that the battle against Pai for Net Neutrality is over, I now present to you my fifth VeggieTales story, "The Wind in the Willows". It is based on the story of the same name by Kenneth Grahame. Some of you may remember that it was also adapted by Disney, along with the story of Ichabod Crane, into the 1949 package film "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad". That movie got stuck in my mind for many years when I first saw it as a youngster, so I was recently inspired to make a VeggieTales episode based on it. Also, speaking of that movie, next year is going to mark the 70th anniversary of when it was first released. So, here you go;

The Wind in the Willows

A lesson about Recklessness

----Life in the woods is supposed to be tranquil for all of the animals, except for Rat, Mole, and Badger. Their good friend Toad has been recklessly making decisions that threaten the well-being of his friends and himself, especially when he's taken up an interest in motorcars. However, thanks to a combination of his own recklessness, a group of conniving weasels, and a stolen motorcar, Toad ends up in prison for his reckless ways. A grand jailbreak and the regaining of the trust of his friends enables Toad to see the error of his ways, as kids and adults alike learn about the importance of not being reckless with our actions. Tallyho!
