Literature Text

[The screen turns black once again before we now see a white text that now
reads "Friday". This time, we now see that Jimmy and Jerry Gourd are playing
a little game of peekaboo with Baby Lou, something which Baby Lou really
enjoys.]

Baby Lou: *giggles*

Jimmy: *laughs* The kid sure likes to play, doesn't he?

Jerry: He sure does, Jimmy.

Jimmy: You know something, Jerry, despite all the troubles we've had with Baby
Lou these past few days, I think we'll probably get this responsibility thing
down pat.

Jerry: *nods* Right.

Jimmy: Although, I am kind of wondering what kind of troubles he would've gotten
into if we hadn't caught him? Bubble gum in the baby's hair? Sweet potatoes in
the lazy chair?

[Jerry can only shrug in response to this question, at the same time that Baby
Lou crawls away again. Jimmy and Jerry take notice of this but this time, they
are able to stop Baby Lou before he can crawl away again and make more trouble
like he did before. The doorbell rings once again, to which Jimmy answers it
again. When Jimmy opens the door, he finds Larry at the door again.]

Larry: Hi, Jimmy! I've come to see how it was going with Baby Lou.

Jimmy: Do you have to ask, Larry? Everything's going great with the kid.

Larry: That's great! I heard about what happened on Wednesday, so I thought I'd
come over to give you and Jerry this cake that I bought at the bakery today.

[Larry then holds out a marble cake in front of Jimmy.]

Jimmy: A cake, huh? Well, thank you, Larry.

Jerry: Yeah, thanks for the cake.

[Baby Lou becomes excited when he also sees the cake, but he is too little to
reach the table that Jimmy had set the cake on. Baby Lou then starts crying
because he can't reach the cake on the table.]

Jimmy: What's the matter, Lou?

Jerry: I think he wants some cake.

Larry: Nah, I don't think babies are supposed to eat cake.

[Fortunately, Jimmy and Jerry are able to get Lou to stop crying by giving him
his teddy bear.]

Larry: How did you know?

Jimmy: We didn't, we figured that a toy would be just the thing to make him happy.

Larry: At least you guys are being more responsible for him. Well, see ya later.

[Larry then hops off after that. After a couple hours have passed, we then see that
the entire cake had been all eaten, with nothing left but an empty platter and a
few cake crumbs. Jimmy and Jerry are now watching a movie on TV, with Baby Lou
sitting in between them, looking rather enamoured with the movie. A few more hours
later, it is now the early evening, as Baby Lou starts to look very tired.]

Jimmy: Looks like it's bed time for the kid.

Jerry: It sure is.

[Knowing that Baby Lou would cry if they told him that it was time for bed, Jimmy
and Jerry get Lou to go to sleep by singing "Rock-A-Bye Baby" to him. Once Baby Lou
is now asleep, the two gourds also decided to turn in for the night, knowing that
tomorrow is the day that Laura will be coming back to pick up Lou. Jimmy and Jerry
then get into their beds in their room, and drop off to sleep after that. However,
Baby Lou suddenly starts crying again after a few seconds, which wakes up the two
gourd brothers, annoying them once more.]

Jimmy: *annoyed* Ugh! I thought we got him to sleep.

Jerry: So did I. I'll go check.

[Jerry then hops out from his bed to see what woke up Baby Lou. Seconds later, Baby
Lou has stopped crying, before Jimmy then goes back to sleep after that, now that
Baby Lou stopped crying. After a few seconds, Jerry hops back into the bedroom
while carrying Baby Lou in his non-existent arms. It is then revealed that the
reason Baby Lou was crying was because he wanted to sleep with one of the Gourd
brothers. Jerry then gets back in his bed and lays on his side, just as Baby Lou
is now snuggled up close to his belly and falls asleep. Jerry opens his eyes
slightly in a rather groggy matter before looking down at Baby Lou who is now
asleep, smiles, then closes his eyes and goes back to sleep as well.]
I now bring to you the sixth part of "Two Gourds and a Baby".

Two Gourds and a Baby

A lesson in Responsibility

----Jimmy and Jerry Gourd live by themselves in Apartment 7-G without a care in the world. Of course, that all changes one day when Laura Carrot stops by and asks them to look after Baby Lou while she and her family are on vacation for a whole week. This puts a huge damper on Jimmy and Jerry's lifestyle because they are not responsible enough to actually have any experience in looking after babies. Can the two Gourd brothers learn to be responsible for Baby Lou? Find out in this humorous tale that teaches kids that Responsibility has its rewards.

Here is another reference in this story. The bit in which Jerry has Baby Lou sleep with him in his bed is similar to Disney's The Fox And The Hound, where Chief finally allows Copper to sleep with him.
