Episode Title: Pie Fight!

Episode Number: 5b

Synopsis: When Madame Blueberry ends up losing a pie contest to Bob, she is determined to find out
whether Bob really cheated in the contest or not. As a result, there is a rematch the next day, in
which the contestants are to bake their pies in front of the whole crowd and display them in front
of the judge. Things are made even worse when the contestants must attempt to un-bake their pies,
which teaches them that you cannot unsay mean words and that you cannot un-bake the pie.

Review: After watching this episode, I couldn't help but notice how many similarities this episode
seemed to have with 2005's "Duke and the Great Pie War". When I say that, I'm talking about how this
episode involves pies, much like "Duke and the Great Pie War" did, in which that episode marked the
first appearance of Larry's love interest, Petunia Rhubarb. Here in this episode, Petunia actually
served as the announcer for the Petunia Rhubarb Pie Contest, so that was a nice throwback to her
first appearance in "Duke and the Great Pie War". I wasn't quite sure what the lesson of this
episode was though, but I think it's actually supposed to be a lesson in being fair and dealing
with jealousy, even though the characters made light of the fact that saying mean words to one
another can hurt our feelings, especially the analogy that "pies are like mean words". Anyway,
at the beginning of the episode, it seems that Madame Blueberry is about to win the annual pie
contest again, like she apparently did for years, when she is actually beaten by Bob in a surprise
win, much to her shock. Because of this, she takes the advice of Ichabeezer to find out whether
Bob really cheated in winning the contest or not. The prize for winning the contest is a lifetime
supply of pies from Pa Grape's store.

Madame Blueberry then claims to Pa and Petunia that Bob cheated by buying a pie at the Amaze Pies
Gourmet Pie shop and passed it off as a pie that he baked, so because of that, they have Archibald
do a test test between the two pies. Unfortunately, at that time, Archibald had scalded his tongue
after drinking hot tea, so is unable to properly taste anything for a few hours, which leaves him
unable to taste the difference between Bob's pie and the Amaze Pies pie. I was a little bit aggravated
that Archibald was not confronted for apparently not being able to taste the difference near the end
of the episode, especially when Madame Blueberry realizes that one of the ingredients that Bob used
when making his pie was Hazelnut Powder, which the Amaze Pies shop does not use. Despite that little
setback, I thought this was a good episode, especially the pie fight that occurred near the end of
the episode, in which the entire sequence made heavy use of the Hanna-Barbera sound effects. One of
the noteworthy elements of this show is that a lot of the sound effects used in this show are the
Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera sound effects, even though the main series does use the Hanna-Barbera
sound effects, but not as frequently as this show does. I also did like how at the end, after Bob
and Madame Blueberry apologized to each other for badmouthing each other, and for starting the pie
fight, everyone was able to chip in and make what was known as "pie pie", which was made up of
different parts of all of the pies that were thrown around during the scuffle. Sure is a nice
way to make up with each other during a dispute I have to admit.

Final Thoughts: "Pie Fight!" may have been rather inconsistent about what the real lesson is, but
it was an entertaining lesson that was really all about jealousy, being fair, and learning not to
badmouth one another.

Overall Score: 8/10
Today, I bring the tenth episode of "Cave Cat's Anime and Cartoon Reviews", which is the second segment of the fifth episode of "VeggieTales In The House".
